I'll Handle This Whole Gay Marriage Thing

Whenever the subject of gay marriage comes up, you'll invariably get two answers: those who are for it, and the crazy religious hypocritical busybodies who have to start screaming, "But the bible says it's an abomination!"

First off, why do all the religious zealots think that the whole world reads the Bible? And why should that even matter? Why is there no separation of church and state on this issue?

Second, I would like to know this: if religion is such an unstoppable, defining factor in this issue, then how the hell do two atheists get "married"? Obviously, they're not doing it in a church, mosque or temple, so why can't we just apply that rule to gay "marriage." Most of us aren't religious, as we've determined that it's irrelevant to us.

And while we're at it, let's forget the word "marriage." Let's get our own word already. We're smart enough to come up with one.
